I used to teach Gemmology at CPUT every year for about 2 weeks since the year 2000. For the last 10 or 15 years I used to stay with John during that time, initially when he was a bachelor with minimal furniture and ultimately when he moved in with Marga. In 2023, when I had just embarked on my eco-printing journey I collected leaves from all the places I visited and printed them in the CPUT workshop. I discovered that bunch of prints recently and decided to compile them as a book in John’s memory. Marga’s eulogy at his memorial service was very touching and I borrowed some of her words to compile  haiku-type poems. Most of the evenings with John and Marga were spent listening to music, often with some country music in the mix. To John this type of music was all about ‘Motherhood and Trucks’
