Kiepersol swansong

Meanderings

23 September 2026

Ready to print
The Kiepersol (Cussonia spicata) that provided me with so many beautiful leaves over the years, has fallen. It was some type of fungus-type rot that caused it to lie down.
Printed
Zoey and the fallen tree

Field Notes

Year
Since we moved here in 2007 until September 2026
Species
Cussonia spicata, also known as a Cabbage tree, or Kiepersol in Afrikaans
Remarks

It played a signicant role in our lives, an intimate view when having coffee on the verandah, lots of wildlife, and it felt as if it was looking after us. The house was built around it so it feels like a part of the core is gone.
